Women’s Soccer Clipped at Bentley, 1-0

WALTHAM, Mass. (October 2, 2021) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team lost a tough one on the road at Bentley University on Saturday afternoon. The lone goal of the game came in the 71st minute, via a penalty kick from junior Brooke Jones, as Bentley tallied a 1-0 victory in the Northeast-10 Conference contest.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 4-2-2 (1-2-2 NE10), while Bentley improves to 4-2-3 (4-1-1 NE10).

In the first half, the crimson and grey outshot Bentley, 6-2. The Ravens and the Falcons were deadlocked through the first half of the game, though the Ravens enjoyed the better of the chances. Franklin Pierce was able to apply pressure but could not find the back of the net.

The trend held in the second half, as the Ravens outshot Bentley, 10-6. The Ravens were still unable to get the ball past Bentley freshman goalkeeper Claire Ewen though. Bentley finished the game with a total of eight shots to Franklin Pierce's 16, but the Falcons would get all they needed in the 71st minute, when Jones slotted a way a penalty kick for her second goal of the campaign.

Ewen (1-0-0) made her first collegiate start in front of the Bentley net and picked up the win and the shutout, after turning aside all three shots on her goal. Despite the advantage in shot attempts, the shots-on-goal tally favored Bentley, 4-3. Freshman Emilie Fox (Bridgewater, Mass.) made her first career start at the other end for the Ravens as well, and stopped three of four shots while taking the loss (0-1-0).

Franklin Pierce's next game will be on the road at Saint Anselm, in Manchester, N.H., on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 4 p.m.
