RINDGE, N.H. (September 29, 2021) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team hosted the No. 3 nationally ranked Saint Rose Golden Knights on Wednesday evening, with the two Northeast-10 Conference sides battling to a goalless draw on a brisk autumn night at Sodexo Field.

With the draw, Franklin Pierce moves to 4-1-2 (1-1-2 NE10), while Saint Rose suffers the first blemish of any kind to its record and moves to 6-0-1 (3-0-1 NE10). It marked the third overtime contest in the last four meetings between the two teams.

The Ravens and Golden Knights traded early chances, including a shot from freshman Rachael Fantoni (Marion, Mass.) that cannoned off the woodwork. The first half then evolved into a dormant affair, as both teams battled for possession in midfield, unable to capitalize on breakthroughs into the attacking third.

The half would end with the game coming alive again, as both sides traded shots. In the 37th minute, the Ravens would get their best chance of the half through sophomore Tess McKenzie (Warren, R.I.), as the substitute midfielder found the ball at her feet inside the six-yard box, following a short cross from junior Ciersten Palumbo (Holbrook, N.Y.). McKenzie's point-blank shot was saved by senior Marika Laurendeau, as the Golden Knights' keeper made the catch above her head.

The second half began much like the first concluded, with the Ravens seeing the bulk of possession. Freshman Jasmine Perez-Acosta (Cape Coral, Fla.) provided a pair of scoring chances to the home side; as she hit the woodwork in the 50th minute and took a long-range shot in the 60th that went just left of goal. That second effort was followed by Franklin Pierce's best chance of the night, when sophomore Anna Crapanzano (Milano, Italy) was sent on a run into the six-yard box but was stopped by a Laurendeau sweep.

The final 20 minutes of regulation were controlled by the visitors, with Saint Rose controlling possession and recording a few low-danger shots. Regulation would end goalless, with the Golden Knights outshooting the Ravens 12-9.

The Ravens would control most of the first overtime period, and earned a pair of corners but could not put together a substantial threat. The best chance of the overtime periods would come from the feet of Saint Rose freshman Ryleigh Hopeck, who collected a free kick in the box but missed the net right.

Both overtime periods were dominated by the midfield, much like the early stages of the contest. The late stages of the match would devolve into a battle for possession, with a lack of scoring chances and a goalless result. It was a clean sheet for each goaltender on the night, as freshman Gabby Calidonio (Flagler Beach, Fla.) made five saves in front of the Franklin Pierce net on the way to the draw (4-1-2), while Laurendeau (6-0-1) stopped all six shots on her goal at the other end.

The Ravens will hit the road on Saturday for their next contest, an NE10 affair at Bentley, scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
