Franklin Pierce women's soccer

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 21, 2021) – The Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season on Tuesday night, as the Ravens came up short on the road against No. 13 nationally ranked Southern New Hampshire at Penmen Stadium. A pair of goals just 4:25 apart from graduate student Allyson Patterson marked the only offense of the night in a 2-0 victory for the Penmen.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 4-1-1 (1-1-1 NE10), while SNHU improves to 6-0-0 (4-0-0 NE10) and protects its perfect record to start the season.

SNHU opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Junior Allison Beaumont chased down a long pass deep in Raven territory on the right wing. From there, she sent an aerial ball towards the front of the net and a waiting Patterson, who redirected it the short way into the bottom-right corner of the net to make it 1-0.

Patterson picked up her second goal of the game just 4:25 later, in the 29th minute. This time the damage came off a corner kick started by sophomore Alyssa Anderson on the left side. Her service found the head of freshman Mikayla Thompson in front of the right post, who headed it back across the goalmouth. Patterson, off to the left, headed the ball off a bounce and into the back of the net to give SNHU the 2-0 lead.

Franklin Pierce controlled the game statistically, particularly in the second half, but it was ultimately to no avail. The Ravens chalked up advantages of 14-9 in shot attempts and 11-5 in shots on goal, but were held off the scoreboard for the first time all season.

Freshman Gabby Calidonio (Flagler Beach, Fla.) started in net for the Ravens and suffered the loss (4-1-1) after surrendering two goals on five shots on goal. SNHU sophomore keeper Z Kaplan (5-0-0) stopped all 11 shots on her goal to chalk up her third shutout of the season.

The Ravens are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 29, for a home date with Saint Rose at Sodexo Field at 7 p.m.
