RINDGE, N.H. (September 15, 2021) – After a trio of non-conference shutouts to open the season, the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team kept the theme going in its Northeast-10 Conference debut and home opener on Wednesday afternoon. The Ravens bookended the game with goals in the fifth and 83rd minutes on the way to their fourth straight shutout, 2-0, over visiting Stonehill. Freshman Jasmine Perez-Acosta (Cape Coral, Fla.) provided the early game-winner and later assisted on the second goal as well.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 4-0-0 (1-0-0 NE10), while Stonehill falls to 2-2-0 (1-1-0 NE10). Originally scheduled as a 7 p.m. contest, the start of the game was moved to the mid-afternoon in order to avoid anticipated severe weather in the area Wednesday night.

The fourth straight shutout marked the longest shutout streak for the program since a four-game run in October of 2010. The last time the Ravens opened the season with four straight clean sheets was in 2002, when they rattled off six straight to start a campaign which would run all the way to a national semifinal appearance.

Facing their first NE10 test of the season, the Ravens put one on the board early against Stonehill. In just the fifth minute, Perez-Acosta put together a strong individual effort on the right side, as she shook one defender and powered around another into the right-wing side of the box. Once there, she had a shooting lane and lofted a strike high into the far side of the net to open the scoring with her third goal of the campaign.

The opener would stand as the only tally for much of an afternoon which featured some lively offense at both ends of the field. Franklin Pierce finished the day with advantages of 17-11 in shot attempts and 7-4 in corner kicks, while each side put six shots on target.

It took until the 83rd minute for another ball to find the net, when the Ravens added an insurance marker to put the game away. Perez-Acosta provided the setup this time, as she sent a through ball ahead on the right side. Sophomore Tess McKenzie (Warren, R.I.) chased down the ball on the other end, in the right side of the penalty area and put a shot across and into the left side-netting for her third goal of the season.

Perez-Acosta is now on a four-game point-scoring streak (3-3-9) to open the season.

Freshman keeper Gabby Calidonio (Flagler Beach, Fla.) made it three individual shutouts in four games to start the season, as she turned aside all six shots she faced to pick up the win (4-0-0). Sophomore Mia Jackson (0-1-0) made four saves against six shots and suffered the loss for Stonehill.

The Ravens are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 18, when they remain home to host Pace in an NE10 contest at 11 a.m.
