Women’s Soccer Falls at Saint Michael’s, 1-0, to Conclude Season

COLCHESTER, Vt. (October 29, 2016) – A 41st-minute goal by senior midfielder Allegra DiCesare was the only offense on Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team suffered a 1-0, season-ending loss on the road at Duffy Field in Northeast-10 Conference play at Saint Michael's.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce concludes its season at 7-7-2 (4-7-2 Northeast-10), while Saint Michael's finishes its campaign at 4-13-0 (3-11-0 Northeast-10). The loss eliminated Franklin Pierce from postseason contention, as the Ravens failed to qualify for the Northeast-10 Championship for the second straight season.

The only goal of the afternoon came with just 4:48 remaining in the first half. Sophomore midfielder Emily Durette played a through ball to set up DiCesare, who finished her fourth goal of the season into the top-right corner to give Saint Michael's a 1-0 lead, which would also stand as the final score.

Franklin Pierce controlled the game statistically on Saturday, but was unable to break through for a goal. The Ravens collected advantages of 14-4 in shot attempts, 5-4 in shots on goal and 9-0 in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Casey Cook (Beverly, Mass.) finished with three saves against four shots on goal and took the loss (7-7-2) in goal for Franklin Pierce. Sophomore netminder Megan LeCours (4-11-0) stopped all five shots on her goal at the other end of the field to pick up the win for Saint Michael's, as well as her second shutout of the season.
