Senior captain leads backline in back-to-back shutouts

Vieira has been named Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Week
for the second time this fall.RINDGE, N.H. (October 13, 2014) – Senior tri-captain back Gabriela Vieira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) of the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team has been named Northeast-10 Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Oct. 12, as announced Monday by the Conference office.
Vieira, who sports the captain's armband on the field, and the rest of the Franklin Pierce defense allowed just four shots on goal over two games while posting two shutouts and going 2-0-0 last week. On Tuesday afternoon, the backline allowed just three shots on goal in a 1-0 win at Saint Michael's. On Saturday afternoon, the Ravens allowed just one on-target shot in another 1-0 win, this time over New Haven.
The defense, combined with freshman goalkeeper Casey Cook (Beverly, Mass.) have not allowed a goal over the last 313:21. The Ravens have won four straight games and posted three consecutive shutouts.
The Ravens return to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 15, when they travel to Saint Anselm for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Grappone Stadium in Manchester, N.H. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Saturday, Oct. 18 against Le Moyne at 1 p.m.
