Ravens hit road, visit Bentley on Wednesday

Ravens Women's Soccer RINDGE, N.H. (September 27, 2014) – The only goal of the game came from freshman forward Morgan Burchhardt, just 32 seconds into the second half of Saturday afternoon, as the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team was defeated, 1-0, by No. 1 nationally ranked Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference play at Sodexo Field. Freshman goalkeeper Casey Cook (Beverly, Mass.) made two saves in the loss for Franklin Pierce.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 3-3-1 (1-3-1 Northeast-10), while Saint Rose -- the defending Northeast-10 champion -- is now unbeaten in its first eight games and improves to 7-0-1 (3-0-1 Northeast-10).

The game was short on scoring chances at both ends of the field, as only 15 shots were attempted between the two teams, just six of which were on goal. Saint Rose earned eight corner kicks, against just one for the Ravens, en route to an 8-7 advantage in shot attempts, while each team put three shots on target.

After a scoreless first half, the Golden Knights struck quickly in the second half to net the game's only goal in the 46th minute. Junior forward Jennifer Busk sent the ball into the middle from the right-wing side. Burchhardt was at the top of the six-yard box and got her foot to the ball to finish off her fourth goal of the season.

Cook finished with two saves against three shots on goal and suffered the loss (3-3-1) in net for Franklin Pierce. At the other end, sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Homer stopped all three shots on her goal to pick up the win (7-0-1) and her seventh shutout of the season. She has played every minute in net for Saint Rose on the year and has yielded just one goal across eight games.

The Ravens return to the field on Wednesday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Bentley for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Bentley Soccer Field in Waltham, Mass. Franklin Pierce next plays at home on Saturday, Oct. 4 against Adelphi at 3 p.m.
