Six Women's Soccer Standouts Earn All-NE-10 Honors Including Gabriela Vieira on First-Team

13th time in last 14 seasons a Raven is named to All-NE-10 First-Team

RINDGE, N.H. (November 7, 2013) – Six Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer players were honored by the Northeast-10 Conference on Thursday, as the league announced its all-conference teams. Highlighting the list was senior back Gabriela Vieira (Sao Paulo, Brazil), who was named to the All-NE-10 First-Team for her amazing defensive efforts this season.

Joining Vieira as all-conference honorees were junior midfielder Caroline Savasta (Salem, Mass.) on the second-team, senior back Eize Vieira (Espirito Santo, Brazil) on the third team, sophomore forward Hannah Weagle (Ipswich, Mass.) on the third-team, and freshmen Madison Finlay (Plymouth, Mass.) and Nicole Chaet (Tewksbury, Mass.) on the all-rookie team.

Gabriela Vieira earned first-team recognition as she was one of the top defenders in the league in 2013, and helped anchor a Ravens’ defensive unit that produced four shutouts. Her accolade came just one year after she missed nearly the entire 2012 campaign with an injury. Overall, it was the second all-conference honor for Vieira in her career, as she also earned Third-Team All-NE-10 honors in 2011.

Vieira’s first-team honor marks the 13th time in the last 14 seasons since the school joined the NE-10 that a Raven was named to the top unit.

Savasta was a minutes eater for Franklin Pierce in 2013, as she covered nearly the entire field in each match all season. She logged two goals and three assists for seven points, as the assist total ranked as the third highest on the squad. Both of her markers were game-winners, as she scored those against Saint Anselm (Oct. 16) and Le Moyne (Oct. 19).

Eize Vieira was one of the top defenders in the league this past season, and proved to be one of the steadiest backs the conference saw over the past four years. The all-conference honor was the first of her career, and a fitting end to her playing time in Rindge. Vieira also had a goal and an assist for three points, as the marker was the game-winner in a 1-0 triumph over Wilmington (Del.) on Sept. 8.

Both Vieira's, along with Savasta, served as three of the team captains, and provided solid leadership throughout the entire campaign.

Weagle earned All-NE-10 recognition for the second time in as many seasons, as this year she scored four goals, assisted on four others, and produced 12 points. Each of the three totals was tied for the team lead.

The other Raven to produce 4-4-12 for team-high honors this year was Finlay, who earned a spot on the NE-10 All-Rookie Team. She scored two game-winners this season, including against Merrimack (Sept. 18) and Saint Michael’s (Oct. 8).

Chaet also tied for the team lead with four goals this season, and was named to the all-rookie team as well. Two of the goals went for game-winners. However, Chaet’s biggest offensive outburst of the season came in a two-goal performance in a 4-2 win over Merrimack on Sept. 18.
