Women's Soccer Rallies to Force 1-1 Tie at Assumption

Caroline Savasta notches second assist of the season

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 14, 2013) – Sophomore forward Hannah Weagle (Ipswich, Mass.) scored three minutes into the second half to help the Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team force a 1-1 tie with Assumption on Saturday afternoon in Worcester, Mass. The Ravens moved to 1-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds moved to 2-0-1 and 0-0-1 in league play.

The tying marker was Weagle's first of the season, as she led the Ravens with 11 tallies a year ago. Junior midfielder Caroline Savasta (Salem, Mass.) notched an assist on the goal as her pass ignited the scoring play. It was Savasta's second helper in the first three matches of the season.

Franklin Pierce, however, could not take the momentum gained from that goal and turn it into the winning tally late in the contest. The Ravens held a 12-9 advantage in shots, including firing off six in the second 45 minutes.

Assumption pushed the offensive tempo in both overtimes – outshooting Franklin Pierce 4-2 – but could not come up with the winning tally itself.

Franklin Pierce sophomore goalkeeper Katie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) made five saves to move her record to 1-1-1 on the year, while Assumption keeper Rachel Edgin stopped four shots in moving to 2-0-1.

The Greyhounds got the scoring started in the 12th minute as Andrea Bates dribbled down the right side of the field and slipped a shot to the far corner of the net past Weldon's attempted stop.

Weagle and Savasta each logged three shots apiece for the Ravens, while Paige Radomski logged a game-high four attempts for the Greyhounds.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Wednesday night when the Ravens play host to Merrimack at 7 p.m. on Sodexo Field in Rindge.
