Katie Weldon makes six saves in tough loss

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 27, 2012) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team concluded its 2012 regular season on Saturday with a 2-0 setback at American International at Abdow Field in Springfield, Mass. The Ravens fell to 9-6-2 overall and 8-6-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 13-2-2 and 12-1-2 in league play.

After a scoreless first half, AIC popped in a pair of goals in the second half to pull away for the win and clinch a share of the NE-10 regular season championship.

Roxy Lee-Stewart sparked the Yellow Jackets second half scoring barrage three minutes into the frame when she headed in a crossing pass from Bonnie Boornazian. American International put the match out of reach in the 82nd minute when Romina Bell scored on a free kick attempt from 20 yards out.

The Ravens outshot AIC, 21-17, but could not come up with a tally to change the tide of the match. Freshman forward Hannah Weagle (Ipswich, Mass.) logged a game-high six shots for the Ravens, including putting a pair on goal. Lee-Stewart paced AIC with four shots.

Goalkeeper Samantha Tabak stopped five shots for AIC to produce the shutout win and run her record to 13-1-1 on the year.

Ravens freshman keeper Katie Weldon (Manchester, N.H.) turned away six shots despite suffering the loss to fall to 2-3-1 on the campaign.

Franklin Pierce has qualified for the NE-10 playoffs, which will begin with the quarterfinals on Monday. However, opponent, site and time are still to be determined.
