Women's Soccer Plays to 0-0 Tied Against Adelphi on Saturday

Amanda Panaro able to play one final time in her collegiate career

RINDGE, N.H. (October 29, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team concluded its 2011 season on Saturday by playing to its second-consecutive scoreless draw, this time coming in a shortened contest versus Adelphi at Sodexo Field in Rindge. The Ravens concluded their 2011 season with a 6-8-3 overall record and a 4-8-3 mark in the Northeast-10, while Adelphi finished at 8-7-1 and 7-7-1 in league play.

Saturday's contest was called following the first overtime as snow blanketed the field, causing unplayable conditions. For Franklin Pierce, the 0-0 tie came just three days after playing to the same score in 110:00 of action versus Saint Anselm at Sodexo Field.

Franklin Pierce outshot Adelphi, 16-10, in the contest, including putting 10 shots on goal. Senior back Nikki Chalifoux (Lebanon, Conn.) led the way with three shots, including putting a pair on net. Classmate Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass.) made five saves to produce the 20th shutout of her career in her final collegiate match. She finished the season with a 6-8-3 record in net.

Chalifoux and Leon were two of Franklin Pierce's four seniors who were honored prior to the match for their four years of commitment to the program. Seniors Amanda Panaro (Rockland, Mass.) and Tori Gikas (Sydney, Australia) were the other two Ravens to be honored in the ceremony. Panaro had missed the final couple weeks of the season due to a knee injury, but she was able to play one final time on Saturday as she started and played the first two minutes before leaving to a standing ovation from friends and family. Gikas recorded two shots in the game and finished the season ranked second on the team with 13 points.
