Women's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Southern New Hampshire

Eize Vieira and Talita Pereira each fire off a team-high three shots

Talita Pereira recorded a team-high tying three shots Wednesday night.

RINDGE, N.H. (September 28, 2011) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday night at Sodexo Field in Rindge. The Ravens fell to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the Northeast-10, while the Penmen improved to 5-4 and 3-3 in league play.

Franklin Pierce outshot SNHU, 6-3, in the first half, but could not get anything past Penmen goalkeeper Samantha Whittier as the match was scoreless at halftime.

SNHU, though, broke through in the 56th minute with the only goal it would need in pulling out the win as Sunshine Yang slipped a no look pass to Ashley Jaskula near the top of the box, which Jaskula then dribbed down the left side and fired off a shot that clanged off the right post and into the back of the net. It was Jaskula’s third goal of the season, and marked the second-consecutive season she scored the match-winning goal versus Franklin Pierce. She also turned the trick in SNHU’s 1-0 win over the Ravens back on Sept. 18 of last season in Manchester.

SNHU held Franklin Pierce to just three shots in the second half and held a 10-9 advantage in shots for the entire 90 minutes. Talita Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Eize Vieira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) each fired off a team-high three shots for the Ravens. Senior goalkeeper Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass.) made three saves despite suffering the loss to fall to 4-4 on the season.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Saturday when the Ravens travel to face UMass-Lowell at 1 p.m.
