Eize Vieira and Talita Pereira each fire off a team-high three shots

Talita Pereira recorded a team-high tying three shots Wednesday night.

RINDGE, N.H. (September 28, 2011) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday night at Sodexo Field in Rindge. The Ravens fell to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the Northeast-10, while the Penmen improved to 5-4 and 3-3 in league play.

Franklin Pierce outshot SNHU, 6-3, in the first half, but could not get anything past Penmen goalkeeper Samantha Whittier as the match was scoreless at halftime.

SNHU, though, broke through in the 56^th minute with the only goal it would need in pulling out the win as Sunshine Yang slipped a no look pass to Ashley Jaskula near the top of the box, which Jaskula then dribbed down the left side and fired off a shot that clanged off the right post and into the back of the net. It was Jaskula’s third goal of the season, and marked the second-consecutive season she scored the match-winning goal versus Franklin Pierce. She also turned the trick in SNHU’s 1-0 win over the Ravens back on Sept. 18 of last season in Manchester.

SNHU held Franklin Pierce to just three shots in the second half and held a 10-9 advantage in shots for the entire 90 minutes. Talita Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Eize Vieira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) each fired off a team-high three shots for the Ravens. Senior goalkeeper Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass.) made three saves despite suffering the loss to fall to 4-4 on the season.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Saturday when the Ravens travel to face UMass-Lowell at 1 p.m.
