RINDGE, N.H. (September 21, 2011) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Bentley on Wednesday at Sodexo Field in Rindge. The Ravens fell to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the Northeast-10, while the Falcons improved to 4-3 and 3-2 in league play.

The Ravens outshot Bentley, 23-2, and put 15 shots on goal, but Falcons goalkeeper Christiana Hynds turned aside every shot to earn the shutout victory.

Bentley’s first shot, which came in the 23rd minute, was all it needed to go on top and stay there for the win. The goal came from the foot of Julie Pomponi, who tracked down a lob pass deep in the offensive zone and slipped a shot underneath Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass.) to the center of the net. Katie Moroney was credited with an assist on the play for dropping the pass inside the box for Pomponi to fire off the shot.

Franklin Pierce got eight shots from sophomore Talita Pereira (Sao Paulo, Brazil), who entered the match leading the NE-10 with 31 shots. Senior Amanda Panaro (Rockland, Mass.) had five shots, including four on goal, while sophomore Joanna Gibson (London, England) added four.

The win marked Bentley’s first over Franklin Pierce in 19 matches all-time.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Sunday when the Ravens travel to face Assumption at 1 p.m. in Worcester, Mass.
