BOXSCORE

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (October 8, 2010) -- The 14th-ranked Franklin Pierce University women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Adelphi on Friday afternoon in Garden City, N.Y. The Ravens dropped their second straight in falling to 7-3-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Panthers improved to 4-4-1 overall and 4-4 in league play.

Kaitlin Monteith scored a goal and assisted on the other for a three-point afternoon to lead the Adelphi offensive attack. Alison Gronenthal scored the other goal for the Panthers.

Monteith opened the scoring in the sixth minute as she dribbled down the left-hand side of the box past a Franklin Pierce back and slipped a shot past Ravens' goalkeeper Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass.).

Monteith's strong offensive play continued throughout the first half and she was rewarded once again in the 40th minute as Adelphi built a 2-0 advantage when she dribbled down into the left corner and sent a crossing pass to the net, which Gronenthal was able to get a foot on to get a shot past Leon for the tally.

Franklin Pierce had several opportunities to get back into the match, but the Ravens were not able to get a blast past Adelphi goalkeeper Dorothy Connolly. The Ravens did own an 18-14 advantage in shots, including putting half of those on goal. Amanda Panaro (Rockland, Mass.) had a team-high five shots, while Aya Noguchi (Tokyo, Japan) followed with four, putting three of those on goal.

Leon did make six saves, but it wasn't enough as the loss dropped her record to 7-3-1 on the year. Connolly made all nine saves in net to earn the win.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Sunday when the Ravens play host to Pace at 1 p.m. in Sodexo Field.
