Johansson scores three goals to pace the Ravens

RINDGE, N.H. (Sept. 22, 2009) – The 22nd-ranked Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team earned its fifth-straight win on Tuesday night with a 5-0 triumph over Bentley University at Sodexo Field in Rindge, N.H. Franklin Pierce improved to 7-2-0 overall and 5-1-0 in Northeast-10 competition. Bentley fell to 4-3-0 and 2-3-0 in the league.

Junior forward Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden) tallied three goals on the evening to pace the Ravens in the win. The goals were her sixth, seventh and eighth of the season. Sophomore midfielder Tori Gikas (Sydney, Australia) and senior midfielder Gabriela Demoner (Vitoria, Brazil) each added a marker for Franklin Pierce as well. Demoner notched an assist in the game to give her three points on the evening.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass.) needed to make just one save to preserve the shutout for Franklin Pierce. It marked her fourth-consecutive shutout and ran her scoreless streak to 379:03. Overall, the Ravens have posted five-straight shutouts and have combined to score 23 goals during that span.

Gikas got the scoring started at 5:31 in the contest, as her goal would prove to be the game-winner. She netted her tally off a blocked kick which came from the corner. Johansson’s first goal came unassisted at 6:22 when she intercepted a Bentley pass and deposited the ball in the back of the net.

Demoner notched her 17th goal of the campaign (tops on the team and in the Northeast-10) at 62:08, when she took a centering pass from Shona Franklin (Birmingham, England) and placed it in the back of the net.

Johansson capped the scoring with a pair of goals at the 83:51 and 85:05 marks. Her second goal was assisted by Shannon Mulvey (Worcester, Mass.) and her final tally was assisted by Demoner.

Franklin Pierce out-shot Bentley by a count of 38-5, with 21 of the Ravens shots going on goal. Bentley goalkeeper Kara Smith made 16 saves in the contest.
