Gabriela Demoner Named to Brazilian National Team for Upcoming Tournament
Tournament to be held Dec. 7-20 in Sao Paulo, Brazil
RINDGE, N.H. (December 4, 2009) – Franklin
Pierce University women’s soccer senior standout
Gabriela Demoner (Vitoria, Brazil) has been
selected by the Brazilian National Team to compete for her home
country in the 2009 Internation Tournament, which will be held Dec.
7-20, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Demoner, a midfielder, was named a Daktronics First-Team
All-American earlier this week, marking the third time in her four
seasons that she earned first-team All-America status.
Demoner recently completed her collegiate career at Franklin Pierce
and turned in an outstanding senior campaign in 2009. She scored 32
goals and assisted on eight others for 72 points. Her goals and
points each rank among the top-five nationally (as of Nov. 22) in
the NCAA statistical standings. Demoner also led all of NCAA
women’s soccer (Divisions I, II & III) in goals scored
throughout a large portion of the 2009 regular season.
She had a big hand in helping the Ravens advance far in the
postseason. Demoner scored both goals in Franklin Pierce’s
2-1 win over UMass-Lowell in the semifinals of the Northeast-10
Tournament. That win helped propel the Ravens to the NE-10
Tournament title game for the second-consecutive season and for the
ninth time in 10 years since joining the league in 2000. She was
named to the Northeast-10 All-Tournament Team for her efforts.
Demoner also came up big for Franklin Pierce in the NCAA Division
II Tournament last month. She scored twice to lift the third-seeded
Ravens to a convincing 4-1 win over second-seeded University of
Bridgeport in the second round in Connecticut.
By having a remarkable 2009 season, Demoner earned several
post-season honors, including: 2009 Daktronics, Inc. East Region
Player of the Year; 2009 Daktronics, Inc. All-East Region
First-Team; 2009 Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year; and
2009 Northeast-10 First-Team.
