Women's Soccer Gets Last Second Goal From Panaro to Down Saint Anselm

Amanda Panaro scores with 24 seconds remaining

BOXSCORE

RINDGE, N.H.. (October 20, 2009) – The Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team scored with 24 seconds remaining to break a scoreless tie en route to a 1-0 triumph over Saint Anselm on Tuesday afternoon at Sodexo Field. The Ravens ran their record to 13-3-1 overall and 11-2-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference. Saint Anselm fell to 7-8-1 and 6-7-0 in the league.

The game-winning goal came courtesy of sophomore forward Amanda Panaro (Rockland, Mass.), who took a pass at the top of the box and fired a shot that beat the Hawks goalkeeper to the upper right corner of the net. It was the fourth of the season for Panaro, and she was assisted by senior midfielder Gabriela Demoner (Vitoria, Brazil).

The goal was especially sweet for Panaro, who had slammed a pair of shots off the cross bar just minutes earlier in the contest. The third time was the charm for her, as the goal helped Franklin Pierce run its unbeaten streak to three games (2-0-1) in the process.

Franklin Pierce held a commanding, 25-4, edge in shots. Demoner fired seven herself, but several were blocked away by Saint Anselm’s goalkeeper.

Franklin Pierce sophomore goalkeeper Jocelyn Leon (Lennox, Mass.) made three saves in the contest to run her record to an impressive 9-1 on the season.

Prior to the contest, the team honored its senior class for its four years of dedication to the program. However, it will not be the last time the team plays at Sodexo Field this season, as the Ravens will host at least one game in the upcoming NE-10 Tournament, which will begin on Sunday, Nov. 1.

In the meantime, Franklin Pierce will conclude its regular season this Saturday when it travels to face Assumption at 1 p.m. For more information on Franklin Pierce women’s soccer, please visit the team’s page at athletics.franklinpierce.edu(.)
