12th-ranked Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team
suffered a tough 2-0 loss at No. 2 Saint Rose on Saturday in
Albany, N.Y. The loss snapped the Ravens nine-game winning streak
as they fell to 11-3-0 overall and 9-2-0 in the Northeast-10
Conference. The Golden Knights remained unbeaten at 13-0-0 and 10-0
in the league.
Saint Rose out-shot Franklin Pierce by a count of 19-5, as it
marked the first time this season the Ravens were shut out in a
match. Franklin Pierce freshman goalkeeper Casey Edward
(Marshfield, Mass.) made five saves in the setback.
The two teams were meeting for the first time since Saint Rose
defeated Franklin Pierce in back-to-back games at the end of the
2008 season. The Golden Knights won the Northeast-10 Tournament
title at Sodexo Field last season, and then defeated the Ravens in
the NCAA Regional the following week.
Kimberly Morton put Saint Rose on top, 1-0, with a first-half goal
(24:08) and Carly Pengelly sealed the win with a second-half tally
in the 75th minute.
Franklin Pierce returns to action Wednesday night when it plays
host to Merrimack at 6 p.m. in Sodexo Field. The game will mark
another exciting “Pierce Pride” event for students on
campus and fans throughout the area. For more information on
