RINDGE, N.H. (October 6, 2009) – The 12th-ranked Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team defeated American International, 3-0, on Tuesday night at Sodexo Field in Rindge, N.H. The win ran Franklin Pierce’s (11-2-0, 9-1-0 Northeast-10) streak to nine-straight victories. AIC fell to 6-6-1 overall and 3-6-1 in the league.

Senior midfielder Gabriela Demoner (Vitoria, Brazil) scored twice, and junior forward Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden) scored the other goal for the Ravens, who improved to 14-3-3 all-time against the Yellow Jackets.

Demoner notched the contest’s first goal at the 7:38 mark when she headed in a pass from Snezana Stojkovic (Vitojevci, Serbia) in front of the net.

Demoner’s second goal was unassisted and came in the 56th minute as she dribbled onto the doorstep of the net and lifted a shot top center over AIC goalkeeper Kara Potts. It marked the 22nd and 23rd goals for Demoner this season, who leads all of the NCAA (Division I, II & III) in goals scored. She was the first player nationally this season to top 20 goals scored.

Johansson put the match out of reach at the 57:13 mark when she took a pass from Demoner in front of the net and slipped it past Potts to make it 3-0. It was Johansson’s 14th of the season, as she has scored at least one goal in each of Franklin Pierce’s last five home games.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass.) needed to make just three saves to earn the shutout victory. She ran her record to 7-1 on the season with the win. Overall, the Ravens outshot AIC, 25-8, in the contest.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Saturday when it travels to face second-ranked Saint Rose at 1 p.m. The game will mark the rematch of last season’s Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Championship game, which Saint Rose won.
