Demoner Nets Three, Womens Soccer Shuts Out Saint Michaels, 3-0
Senior tallies second consecutive hat trick

COLCHESTER, Vt. (September
15, 2009) – Senior midfielder Gabriela
Demoner (Vitoria, Brazil) scored all three goals on
Tuesday afternoon to record her second consecutive three-goal game
and lead the Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team
to a 3-0 victory over Saint Michael’s in Northeast-10
Conference play at Duffy Field. Sophomore goalkeeper
Jocelyn Leon (Lenox, Mass.) made two saves to post
her third straight shutout for Franklin Pierce.
With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 5-2-0 (3-1-0
Northeast-10), while Saint Michael’s falls to 1-5-0 (0-3-0
Northeast-10) with the loss.
Demoner fired the opening salvo of seventh career hat trick in the
16th minute. She took a pass from junior midfielder
Michelle Santos (East Hartford, Conn.) and knocked
a shot into the lower-left corner to tally her 12th goal of the
season.
While the Ravens dominated the first half, they could not find the
net a second time. Franklin Pierce tallied a 10-2 shots advantage
over the opening 45 minutes.
Demoner would put the game out of reach with a pair of goals in
the second half. Her second goal of the game came in the 62nd
minute, as she put home a free kick from the top of the penalty
area to push the Franklin Pierce lead to 2-0.
Later, in the 81st minute, Demoner would complete the hat trick
with her 14th goal of the season off a pass from junior midfielder
Shona Franklin (Birmingham, England). For Demoner,
it was her second consecutive three-goal game as well as her third
hat trick of the season. The three goals run Demoner’s point
total to 30 (14 goals, two assists), which eclipses her 25-point
effort (seven goals, 11 assists) of a year ago just six matches
into the season.
The Ravens held a 9-4 edge in shots in the second half to finish
with a 19-6 advantage over the course of the game. Franklin Pierce
attempted six corner kicks on the afternoon to two for Saint
Michael’s
Leon stopped both sent her way to post her third consecutive
shutout and pick up the win (4-1-0) in net for Franklin Pierce.
Leon has not allowed a goal in her last 289:03 between the pipes
for the Ravens, dating back to Sept. 1 at Massachusetts Lowell.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ashleigh Adams made five saves against eight
shots and took the loss (0-4-0) in net for Saint
Michael’s.
The Ravens return to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 20, when they
travel to New Haven for a Northeast-10 Conference contest. Kickoff
is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Kayo Field in West Haven, Conn. Franklin
Pierce next plays at home on Sept. 22 against Bentley at 7 p.m.
