RINDGE, N.H. (October 18, 2008) - Sophomore All-American Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden) scored the game's lone goal to lead Franklin Pierce University, ranked 17th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, to a 1-0 victory over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action as part of Alumni and Reunion Weekend activities at Sodexo Field this afternoon.

Johansson, who has now scored each of Franklin Pierce's last five goals over the last three matches, scored her Northeast-10 best 20th goal of the season when she knocked in a sharp cross from the right side by junior All-American Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil) at the far post in the 67th minute. The goal was Johansson's Conference-best seventh match-winner of the season, while Demoner notched her team-best seventh assist of the year.

Senior goalkeeper Brittany Ester (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) made one second half save to preserve her fifth shutout of the season - giving her 18 over her two-year career at Franklin Pierce to move into fifth place on the program's career list. Freshman Kim Taylor (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) stopped two shots in goal for New Haven. The Ravens finished with an 8-4 edge in shots for the match after gaining a 6-1 advantage in a scoreless first half.

Johansson nearly put Franklin Pierce in front in the closing ten minutes of the first half, but her shot from just inside the top of the 18 sailed just over the crossbar. Demoner had an excellent chance less than three minutes into the second half, but Taylor charged off her line to stop an open attempt at the top of the 18.

Franklin Pierce (10-3-1, 8-2-1 NE-10) is back in action on Tuesday, when it visits Bentley College at 3:30 p.m. The Ravens return home next Saturday to host No. 24-ranked Merrimack College at 1 p.m.
