ALBANY, N.Y. (September 17, 2008) - Franklin Pierce University, ranked 17th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, notched a key 1-0 victory at 15th-ranked College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at the Albany Academy this afternoon.

Junior All-America midfielder Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil), the reigning Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year netted the only goal of the match, when she side-stepped a defender at the top of the 18 and fired a bending shot into the top shelf on the right side of the goal at 74:52.

Senior goalkeeper Brittany Ester (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) made five saves to preserve the Ravens first shutout of the season. The clean sheet is the 14th of Ester's two-year career at the University, moving into a tie for seventh on the program's all-time list with Kara Shemeth (1998-2001). Junior Shannon Murphy (Charlton, Mass./St. Peter Marian) made four saves in goal for Saint Rose.

Senior Brittany Ester made five saves to preserve the Ravens first shutout of the season - the 14th of her two year career at the University.

The Golden Knights posted a slim 12-11 advantage in shots for the match, but Franklin Pierce enjoyed the majority of possession and controlled play throughout.

Demoner's goal came moments after one of Saint Rose's most sustained periods of offensive pressure in which Ester was forced to make a pair of saves in the 70th minute. Franklin Pierce appeared to take the lead in the 57th minute, when a blast from senior Kristen Cilley (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) looked to have trickled over the end line, only to be cleared at the last minute by Saint Rose sophomore Coco Ebersole (Fort Collins, Colo./Poudre).

Ester made a nice save on a shot by sophomore Jazmine Farrell (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) with just over nine minutes to play to preserve the victory. Saint Rose's best scoring chance came in the first half, when a header by freshman Nicola D'Errico (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) off a corner kick flashed just wide of the left post.

Franklin Pierce (4-1-1, 2-0-1 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it visits Southern Connecticut State University for an NE-10 match at 7 p.m. The Ravens are back home next Tuesday, September 23, to host Saint Michael's College at 7 p.m. Saint Rose (4-2-0, 2-1-0 NE-10) travels to Bentley College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
