Johansson Named NE-10 Player of the Week

Sophomore All-American earns award for fourth time this season

RINDGE, N.H. (November 3, 2008) - Franklin Pierce University sophomore All-American Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week this afternoon.

Johansson, who earns the award for the fourth time this season, played a role in seven of Franklin Pierce's eight goals scored in a 2-0 week with six goals and an assist for 13 points. She scored four goals in the Ravens 5-0 victory over Saint Anselm College on Sunday in the quarterfinal round of the Northeat-10 Tournament. She figured in all three goals with two goals and an assist in Wednesday's 3-0 win in the Ravens regular season finale at Stonehill College.

Johansson, named the Northeast-10 Player of the Year and a first team All-Conference selection for the second-straight year over the weekend, leads Division II with 28 goals and 60 points to go with four assists as one of three Franklin Pierce players to start all 18 matches so far this season. She also leads the Northeast-10 with eight match-winning goals and has totaled five hat tricks as part of seven multi-goal games this season. She matched a program record with five goals in the Ravens season-opening 9-1 win over Holy Family, including two goals a program-record 32-seconds apart. She totaled a Conference-best 37 points and 17 goals with three assists during the NE-10 regular season.

Johansson, who earned NSCAA/adidas second team All-America, NE-10 Freshman of the Year and first team All-Conference honors in 2007, already ranks among program leaders with 87 career points (15th) and 39 goals (11th), including ten match-winning markers (9th) in 34 career matches played.

Franklin Pierce (14-3-1, 11-2-1 NE-10), regular season champions in the Northeast-10, is back in action on Thursday when the top-seeded Ravens host fourth-seeded Southern Connecticut State University (12-4-2, 9-3-2 NE-10) in semifinal round action of the NE-10 Tournament at 4 p.m. The Northeast-10 Championship match is slated for Sunday, November 9.
