#4 Franklin Pierce Tops Flagler, 2-1

Sophomore All-American Angelika Johansson netted her NE-10 leading tenth goal of the season and added an assist to lead the Ravens past Flagler today.

SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. (September 14, 2008) - Franklin Pierce University, ranked No. 4 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, left the Sunshine State on a winning note after a 2-1 victory over Flagler College, among ranked teams in the NSCAA/adidas South Region poll, in a non-conference women's soccer contest at Saints Field today.

Sophomore All-American Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden) notched a goal and assist to lead Franklin Pierce to a bounce back win after suffering a 3-2 overtime loss at Florida Tech on Friday. Senior Kelly Sisco (Hubbardston, Mass./Quabbin Regional) also netted a goal for the Ravens, who outshot their hosts 24-8 for the match.

Senior Brittany Ester (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) made four saves to preserve the victory in goal for Franklin Pierce, while freshman Kaitlyn Goffe (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg Collegiate) finished with seven stops for Flagler. 


Senior Kelly Sisco scored her third goal of the season to put the Ravens up 2-0 early in the second half.

Junior Tiffany Urquhart (Ormond Beach, Fla./Seabreeze) scored Flagler's lone goal when the Saints were awarded a penalty kick in the 58th minute.

Johansson gave Franklin Pierce a quick lead, when she took a pass from senior back Melissa Hagmire (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) and scored her Northeast-10 leading tenth goal of the season just 33-seconds into the match. Johansson turned provider for the Ravens second goal as she set up Sisco's third marker of the year 4:25 into the second half.

With Flagler cutting Franklin Pierce's lead in half with the penalty kick in the 58th minute, Ester was forced to make a pair of saves in the closing minutes and the Saints collected five of their eight shots in the match in the final ten minutes.

Franklin Pierce (3-1-1, 1-0-1 NE-10) returns to Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday for a key match up at 18th-ranked The College of Saint Rose at 4 p.m. The match is being televised live on Time Warner Sports Channel 3 in the Albany market. The Ravens next home match in Tuesday, September 23, when they host Saint Michael's College at 7 p.m. Flagler (1-2-0) travels to Rollins College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
