Curitiba, Brazil, native first Raven to appear in SI's Spanish publication

RINDGE, N.H. (November 10, 2008) - Franklin Pierce University women's soccer junior All-American Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil) is featured in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of the October/November issue of SI Latino, Sports Illustrated's Spanish language publication.

Demoner is featured for her efforts as a two-time All-American and the 2007 Northeast-10 Player of the Year over her two-plus seasons so far at Franklin Pierce. She also earned Daktronics Division II Northeast Region Player of the Year honors last fall.

Demoner is the first Franklin Pierce student-athlete to be featured in SI Latino and the 11th student-athlete or coach from Franklin Pierce to be featured in "Faces in the Crowd" in Sports Illustrated overall. She is the sixth women's soccer player to appear in SI, joining fellow All-Americans Laura Hislop (10/31/05), Meghan Welcome (12/15/03) and Pauliina Miettinen (11/10/97) and Hall of Famer Nathalie Geeris (12/26/94) as well as women's soccer head coach Jeff Bailey (December, 1999). Others who have been included in "Faces in the Crowd" from the University are men's soccer standouts David Clifton (12/31/07), Henning Comé (10/29/07) and All-American James Thorpe (12/13/04), women's basketball All-American Johannah Leedham (1/15/07) and men's basketball Hall of Famer Bob Szklarz (1968).

Demoner, who has earned first team All-Northeast-10 honors for the third-straight year this season, leads the NE-10 with 11 assists to go with seven goals (7th NE-10) for 25 points in 18 matches played this season. Three of her seven goals this fall are match-winners.

The two-time first team All-American netted her 50th career goal with her dramatic match-winner in Franklin Pierce's 2-1 victory over Southern Connecticut State University in the semifinal round of the NE-10 Tournament. She ranks eighth in program history for career goals, while her 135 career points are good for ninth all-time and she ranks 11th all-time with 35 career assists. Her 12 career match-winning goals rank seventh in program history.

Franklin Pierce (15-3-2, 11-2-1 NE-10), ranked 13th in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, has clinched a share of their sixth NE-10 regular season title this season. The Ravens await word today on what is expected to be a record 17th-straight NCAA Tournament berth.
