#15 Franklin Pierce Defeats Bentley, 4-1

Johansson maintains form with five points, Demoner collects goal and assist

WALTHAM, Mass. (October 21, 2008) - Franklin Pierce University, ranked 15th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, wrapped four goals in a 22-minute span around halftime to claim a 4-1 victory over Bentley College in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Falcons Field this afternoon.

Franklin Pierce's All-America tandem of junior Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil) and sophomore Angelika Johansson (Falkenberg, Sweden) led the way for the Ravens. Johansson continued her tremendous form with two goals and an assist for five points on the afternoon, while Demoner added a goal and assist. Senior Ann Foley (Foxboro, Mass./Rockland) added a goal for the Ravens.

Senior goalkeeper Brittany Ester (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East) didn't make a save in goal for Franklin Pierce. Sophomores Miranda Charles (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore) and Kara Smith (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) split the goalkeeping duties for Bentley, with Charles making six saves in the first half, while Smith stopped two shots and conceded just one of the four goals over the final 45 minutes. The Ravens finished with a 20-6 advantage in shots for the match, including a 12-3 margin in the first half.

The match was scoreless until the 26th minute before Johansson opened Franklin Pierce's four-goal outburst over the next 21 minutes. The sophomore All-American knocked in a loose ball at the 25:25-mark for an unassisted marker. While Johansson saw her streak of six-straight Raven goals scored in the 38th minute, she turned provider for Demoner with a pass over the Bentley defense, before Demoner scored from 15-yards out.

Foley rounded out the first half scoring, when she took a through ball from Demoner and netted her second goal of the season in the 40th minute. Johansson collected her Northeast-10 leading 22nd goal of the season just 1:55 after halftime with another unassisted strike to round out the Ravens scoring. Johansson has scored seven of Franklin Pierce's last nine goals and played a role in eight of those nine with the assist tonight.

Junior Cheryl Boyd (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) put Bentley on the board in the 50th minute, when senior Tara Petitto (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) put her in one on one with Ester to score her seventh goal of the season.

Franklin Pierce (11-3-1, 9-2-1 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it hosts No. 21 Merrimack College for its final regular season home match at Sodexo Field at 1 p.m. Bentley (4-12-1, 2-9-1 NE-10) visits American International College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
