Franklin Pierce Puts Three on NSCAA/adidas All-America Teams

Demoner and Scavo collect first team honors, Franklin named to second team; Trio also earn All-New England region first team honors

RINDGE, N.H. (December 28, 2006) - Three members of the Franklin Pierce women's soccer team have earned NSCAA/adidas Division II All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Senior back Alex Scavo (Toronto, Ontario/Brother Andre) and junior midfielder Gabriela Demoner (Curitiba, Brazil) both earned first team All-America status, while freshman midfielder Shona Franklin (Leicester, England) was selected to the second team. The three also received first team All-New England region honors from the NSCAA.

Franklin Pierce's two first team selections increased the program's Division II record total to 28 all-time, while the three picks overall give the Ravens a total of 39 NSCAA All-Americans in program history.

Scavo, a first team All-American for the second-straight year, has also earned Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors in the Northeast-10 this fall and is now a three-time All-Region and first team All-NE-10 pick. She backboned a Ravens defensive unit which ranked second in the Northeast-10 (27th nationally) with a 0.78 goals against average and nine shutouts. Scavo also led all Franklin Pierce defenders with two goals and an assist for five points in 21 matches, including one match-winning marker.

Scavo, a tri-captain this fall, and the Ravens defensive unit posted a 0.77 goals against average (2nd NE-10)  and six shutouts (2nd) in Conference play and yielded just eight markers in 13 home matches (0.60 GAA) with five shutouts. She also netted an important insurance marker in Franklin Pierce's 3-1 victory over 15th-ranked College of Saint Rose in the NCAA Tournament New England Regional final on November 5.

Demoner earns her first All-America selection in her first season at Franklin Pierce and is largely credited with turning the Ravens season around after a 1-2-0 start. She led the Ravens with 15 goals (3rd NE-10), 12 assists (1st) and 42 points (3rd) as well as a Conference-high six match-winning goals in 19 matches this fall. Demoner also collected first team All-Northeast-10 honors, was named the NE-10 Tournament Most Valuable Player and earned Conference Player of the Week accolades four times.

Franklin Pierce's season took off with Demoner's addition to the lineup as the Ravens posted a 17-1-1 mark in her presence. In Conference play, she totaled ten goals (4th) and nine assists (1st) for 29 points (3rd) over 12 matches. Demoner led the Ravens with five goals (three match-winners) and three assists for 13 points in six postseason contests, including three goals and two assists for eight points in the NCAA Tournament. In five matches against ranked opponents, she added four goals and three assists for 11 points.

Franklin was another first-year player to shine for Franklin Pierce and becomes just the second freshman in program history to earn All-America status, joining Parnilla Larsson who received the honors in 1995. Franklin, the Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year and a first team All-NE-10 pick, ranked third on the team with 14 points and six goals to go with two assists in 22 matches in her first collegiate season. She also added two match-winning goals and opened the scoring in three contests.

Franklin tallied five goals and two assists for 12 points in 14 NE-10 matches and was second on the team with three goals for six points in five matches against ranked teams. Franklin collected NE-10 Freshman of the Week honors twice and Player of the Week once.

Franklin Pierce (18-3-1, 12-2-0 NE-10), ranked sixth in the final regular season NSCAA/adidas Division II poll, captured its record seventh-straight Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Championship and record 11th-straight New England Regional crown this fall. The Ravens saw their season come to a close in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament with a 2-1 setback at No. 2-ranked West Chester (Pa.) University.
