Smith tallies goal and assist as Ravens win streak reaches 12

RINDGE, N.H. (October 15, 2006) - Franklin Pierce, ranked 12th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II poll, scored two goals in each half to collect a 4-0 victory over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Sodexho Field this afternoon.

Freshman Rachel Smith (Carlisle, Pa./Bible Baptist School) registered a goal and assist to lead Franklin Pierce to its 12-straight victory. Senior Linnea Authier (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) made her second start of the season in goal (both this week) and made one save to preserve her first shutout of the season (ninth career).           

Franklin Pierce opened the scoring 18:05 into the match as freshman Mackenzie Bulych (Regina, Saskatchewan/Dr. Martin LeBoldus) took a pass from senior Caoimhe O'Donnell (Bowmanville, Ontario/Bowmanville) and drilled a shot that the AIC keeper got a hand on, put could not prevent from finding the right side of the net.

Smith set up junior Gabriela Demoner's (Curituba, Brazil) tenth goal of the season in the 44th minute with a square ball from the left side. Demoner dribbled past two defenders before sending a drive into the right side of the net.

Smith found the net in the 60th minute, off a long pass from the back by senior Kristen Lake (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), for her third goal of the season. Freshman Meghan Flynn (Nashua, N.H./Nashua) rounded out the scoring with her first collegiate goal, assisted by junior Thatiane Preisler (Curitiba, Brazil) in the 90th minute.

Sophomore Danielle Hodecker (West Springfield, Mass./West Springfield) played the first 68:16 in goal for American International and made six saves, while senior Sara Mead (Great Barrington, Mass./Monument Mt.) posted two stops over the final 21:44. Franklin Pierce finished with a 22-2 advantage in shots for the match, including 12-1 in the opening half.

Franklin Pierce (13-2, 11-2 NE-10) is off until it rounds out the regular season next Saturday at Southern Connecticut State University at 7 p.m. American International (1-13-1, 0-12-0 NE-10) hosts Saint Anselm College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
