Mann Nets Second Goal of Series to Lead Aussie's to 4-1 Win

Australia finishes off sweep of South Korea in 2002 Australia Cup

RINDGE, N.H. (January 19, 2002) - Franklin Pierce women's soccer standout April Mann (Brisbane, Australia/Saint Thomas More) netted her second goal of the series as the Australian National Team finished off a three-game sweep of South Korea with a 4-1 win in game three of the 2002 Australia Cup in front of 2,479 at Tom Flood Sports Centre in Bendigo, Australia.

Australia had already clinched its third-consecutive Cup with a 1-0 win in Albury on Wednesday, the Matildas pressured Korea all night.

Mann put Australia on the board in the 29th minute when she stabbed at a loose ball and placed it into the net for a 1-0 lead. It was Mann's third goal in just six international appearances. She netted the Aussie's lone goal in a 1-0 win in game one of the series last Sunday and tallied the Matildas Cup-clinching goal against France in the 2001 Australia Cup.

Korea evened the match in the 41st minute, but Australia controlled the second half with three unanswered goals.

Mann was an All-Northeast-10 Conference forward for the Ravens this past season and she finished second in the Conference with 47 points as she totaled 17 goals (four gamewinners) and 13 assists.

Franklin Pierce wrapped up its 2001 season with a 22-1 record and ranked No. 4 in the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II poll. The Ravens 22 wins set a school record and matched the NCAA Division II mark. Franklin Pierce advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four for a record tenth-straight season, but had its quest for a record sixth National Championship dashed in the semifinals.
