Verdoes, Keeldar Named All-American

Dutch natives named to second and third teams, respectively

RINDGE, N.H. (December 11, 2001) - Juniors Angela Verdoes (Katwijk Aan Zee, Holland/Ter Leede) and Patricia Keeldar (Amsterdam, Holland/Ter Leede) both earned All-American honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Verdoes, voted to the second team, earns her first All-American award. A midfielder, Verdoes was earlier named to the All-New England team for the second time in her career after finishing tied for second in the Northeast-10 Conference with 47 points this fall. Her 15 assists ranked second in the NE-10 and she also netted 16 goals (four gamewinners). A first team All-NE-10 pick, Verdoes also earned All-Region status along with New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Year honors in 1999 when she set an NCAA Division II record with 24 assists. She missed all but two matches in 2000 after a preseason knee injury.

Verdoes single-handedly led Franklin Pierce to a 9-2 win at Le Moyne College on October 27 when she registered nine points with three goals and three assists. She recorded two goals and an assist to lead the Ravens to a 3-1 win over College of Saint Rose on October 8 and netted a pair of markers in their NE-10 Quarterfinal win (4-0) over Saint Michael's College on October 30.

Keeldar, voted to the third team, also earns her first All-American honor. A forward, Keeldar was also a first-team All-New England pick after leading the Northeast-10 Conference with 72 points and 31 goals (seven gamewinners) to go along with ten assists this season. The NE-10 Player of the Year also claimed first team All-Conference accolades this fall.

A five-time NE-10 Player of the Week, Keeldar recorded three hat tricks and netted a season-high four markers in a 9-0 win at Southern New Hampshire on September 13 and scored three each in wins at Saint Anselm (6-1) and UMass Lowell (8-0). Keeldar earned a spot on the NCAA Division II Final Four All-Tournament team last week after netting their lone goal in the semifinals.

The Franklin Pierce women's soccer team wrapped up its 2001 season with a 22-1 record and ranked No. 3 in the final NSCAA Division II poll. The Ravens 22 wins set a school record and matched the Division II mark. Franklin Pierce advanced to the NCAA Final Four for a record tenth-straight season, but had its quest for a record sixth National Championship halted in the semifinals.
