Rough Start Leaves Ravens Behind in 20-5 Loss vs Southern Connecticut State

New Haven, Conn. (4/5/25) - The Franklin Pierce Women's Lacrosse team could not recover from a rough first quarter, losing to the Southern Connecticut State Owls 20-5.

Score: Franklin Pierce 5, SCSU 20.

Records: Franklin Pierce 3-6 (1-3 NE10), SCSU 8-3 (3-2 NE10)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Ravens got of to a rough start in the first quarter, giving up nine goals to the Owls. Jordan Fisher opened the scoring in the first minute unassisted, followed by Amelia Mansfield scoring on the free position shot a few minutes later. Later in the quarter, Abby Nolan and Allie Welder both scored unassisted to give the Owls a 4-0 lead. The Owls were not done yet as they would score five goals in the final five minutes of the quarter. Allie Palmer buried one with an assist from Jordan Fisher, then Taryn Ugrin scored unassisted, after that, Anna Meserve scored back-to-back goals unassisted, and finally to close out the quarter, Jordan Fisher scored her second of the game unassisted.
  • The Ravens finally got their first goal in the second quarter. Senior attacker Emily Ulmer (Bedford, NH) scored on the free position shot to put the Ravens on the board. That joy was short-lived as the Owls quickly responded with Allie Welder scoring her second and then Anna Meserve scoring her third on the free position shot. The Owls would then score three more times off the stick of Rebecca Sibley and Jordan Fisher, who scored back-to-back goals collecting four in the first half and giving the Owls a comfortable 14-1 lead at halftime.
  • The Owls continued to pile on the pain in the third. Anna Meserve scored her fourth of the game to open the quarter, followed by Allie Palmer scoring her second, assisted by Rebecca Sibley, and Maddox Burton scoring unassisted, giving the Owls a 17-1 lead. Emily Ulmer then cashed in for a second time on the free position shot to give the Ravens their second goal. Shortly after, the Owls continued their dominance as Hannah Hathaway scored unassisted, and Anna Meserve scored her fifth goal unassisted, making it 19-2 going into the final quarter.
  • The Ravens had their best quarter in the fourth quarter. Junior midfielder Erin McIlroy (Newfields, NH) finally got on the scoresheet after a goal assisted by senior midfielder Riley Beem (Windham, ME). After that, junior attacker Olivia Robb (East Longmeadow, MA) scored on the free position shot. Then, Allie Palmer scored her third goal for the Owls. Then finally, to close the game, senior attacker Haley Hermsdorf (Center Moriches, NY) scored off an assist from Riley Beem, giving the Ravens their fifth goal as they fall to the Owls 20-5.

BREAKING DOWN THE NUMBERS

  • The Owls dominated possession, winning 23 draw controls to the Ravens' 5. That led to them outshooting the Ravens 34-20.
  • The Ravens went 3 for 7 on free position shots compared to the Owls going 2 for 5.
  • Both teams were even with ground balls, grabbing 9 each in the game.
