Three Ravens Score Twice, Women's Lacrosse Stumbles at Saint Rose, 19-8

ALBANY, N.Y. (4/8/23) - The Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team had a rough go of it against NE10 opponent College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon, falling by a score of 19-8 on the road.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce drops to 2-9 (1-6 NE10) while Saint Rose improves to 7-4 (3-3 NE10) on the year.

Right from the get-go, Saint Rose seized control of the momentum, jumping out to a 10-0 first-half lead. Junior Daria Bock recorded the early hat-trick for the Golden Knights in that span, while senior Ashley Burns and sophomore Lauren Pendergast each scored twice.

Franklin Pierce started to roll as they got their first goal of the game with 10:12 left  in the second quarter, courtesy of senior Katelyn Hadden (Newburyport, Mass.). Just a few minutes later, Hadden would return with her 2nd goal of the game, 23rd of the season, while freshman Olivia Robb (East Longmeadow, Mass.) added the finishing touches to a 3-0 run by the visitors with her 2nd of the spring. Following a Saint Rose strike at 4:35, Robb would also return for seconds less than a minute later, bringing the score to 11-4 in favor of the hosts. By the half, Saint Rose would have tacked on another three goals to hold a 14-4 advantage.

The Ravens went on another 3-0 run as the only scoring team in the third quarter, starting off with an unassisted goal by senior Gabrielle Oswald (Nedrow, N.Y.). Pierce then capitalized on a free position attempt at the 6:06 mark of the period, thanks to a shot by junior Olivia Delonais (North Andover, Mass.) to notch her 14th on the season. Fellow junior Kayli Hoefs (Amsterdam, N.Y.) added the final strike with 1:19 remaining, also unassisted to retake the team-lead in goals with her 24th on the year, narrowing the score down to 14-7.

The momentum would carry over into the first minute of the fourth for Pierce, where Gabrielle Oswald would become the third Raven on the day to score a pair, once more unassisted. However, the goal would prove to be the final tally in the game for Pierce, as Saint Rose would run up the score five unanswered goals to claim the win.

Senior Erin Blake (Southborough, Mass.) started in goal for the Ravens and collected eight saves on 27 shots faced through the full 60-minute effort.  Saint Rose's Dorothy Gaffney (6-2) picked up the win as the starter, stopping 6-of-14. In total, the Golden Knights outshot the Ravens by a 38-21 margin.

Up next, Franklin Pierce will be back at Sodexo Field to host Assumption University on Wednesday, March 12th for their "Morgan's Message" awareness game at 4:00 p.m.
