RINDGE, N.H. (April 25, 2021) – A five-goal outing from junior Savannah Ernst (American Fork, Utah) was not enough for the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team at home on Sunday afternoon, as the Ravens dropped a 13-10 decision to No. 14 nationally ranked Assumption at Sodexo Field. The Ravens honored their five-player senior class prior to the start of the Northeast-10 Conference contest.

With the loss Franklin Pierce falls to 5-2 (5-2 NE10), while Assumption improves to 7-2 (7-2 NE10). The two teams will close out the regular season with a rematch at Assumption at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28.

Assumption opened the scoring only 33 seconds into the game, as junior Jill Good finished a setup from sophomore Jenna Joseph. Franklin Pierce responded with two goals of its own. The first came from junior Morgan Baxendale (Orchard Park, N.Y.) just 39 seconds later. Ernst scored the other to give the Ravens an early lead.

Assumption senior Allison Foley and junior Lauren Jakobs scored two apiece to regain the lead and extend it to 5-2 for the Greyhounds through the middle 10 minutes of the half. Senior Caroline Lounsbury (Franklin, Mass.) got onto the scoresheet with a goal at the 10:18 mark of the quarter.

Freshman Gabby Oswald (Nedrow, N.Y.) and Ernst scored 16 seconds apart to bring the game back level at 5-5, before Baxendale scored her second goal of the day to give the Ravens the lead with 2:27 to go in the half. Later, freshman Olivia Catanzarite found a way to get in front of the Franklin Pierce net to bury a goal and tie the game, 6-6, with five seconds to go in the half.

Catanzarite ended the first half with a goal and started the second with another, just 43 seconds into the period. The score jump-started a four-goal run for the Greyhounds in the first five minutes of the stanza, which allowed Assumption to take control of the game.

Ernst found the back of the net to halt the run and make it 10-7, with 24:10 to go. She scored again with 14:57 to go to make it 11-8. Oswald picked up her second goal less than a minute later to cut the lead down to two.

Foley scored her fifth goal of the game for the Greyhounds on a free-position shot with 7:47 to go to make it a three-goal game. Ernst answered with her fifth of the game 3:01 later, to trim the deficit back to two.

As the time ticked down Assumption scored an insurance goal from Joseph to make it 13-10 with 1:50 to go in the game, and it would stand as the final score.

Behind Ernst's five-goal performance, Baxendale and Oswald scored twice each, but no other Raven tallied multiple points. Junior Kaitlyn Daly (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) picked up five ground balls and caused three turnovers, while junior Megyn Ayotte (Guilford, Vt.) led all players with six draw controls.

For Assumption, Foley led the way with six points (5-1-6), while Jakobs added four (2-2-4) and Catanzarite provided a hat trick. Senior Marran Oakman filled out her stat line, as she picked up three ground balls, snagged five draw controls and caused a pair of turnovers.

Senior goaltender Casey Butera (West Milford, N.J.) made eight saves against 21 shots in the loss (1-1) for Franklin Pierce. Assumption junior Allie Collins (6-2) made 12 saves against 22 shots en route to the win.
