Baillargeon Racks Up Seven Points, Women’s Lacrosse Doubles Up American International, 20-10

Senior attacker nets three goals, adds four assists; Leach scores four goals

Leach Leach poured in a team-high and personal career-best four goals in Saturday's win at American International.

RINDGE, N.H. (March 26, 2011) – Senior attacker Jordan Baillargeon (Westfield, Mass.) tallied seven points off of three goals and four assists as the Franklin Pierce University women's lacrosse team trumped fellow Northeast-10 Conference opponent American International, 20-10, on Saturday afternoon at Ronald J. Abdow Field. Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Leach (Hamden, Conn.), who entered the game with three goals on the season, scored a team-high four goals in the win for the Ravens.

With the win in Springfield, Franklin Pierce improves to 4-1 (1-1 Northeast-10), while AIC slides to 4-2 (1-2 Northeast-10).

Within the first eight minutes of play, Franklin Pierce took a commanding lead with a four-goal scoring streak. It began with Baillargeon's unassisted goal coming just over two minutes into play. Leach followed with back-to-back goals of her own, the first of which came off the first assist for Baillargeon. Junior midfielder Christine McKay (Norwood, Mass.) rounded out the stretch with a goal off a free-position shot, marking her third this season.

Sophomore midfielder Bridget Szawlowski sparked the AIC scoring off an assist from her sister Courtney. The teams would then exchange a pair of goals over a two-minute span, which included Leach's third before the game had seen five minutes elapse. Following her was junior midfielder Mary Kate Stille (North Quincy, Mass.), who started the Ravens portion of the sister scoring display in Springfield, as she registered her first of two goals. The AIC attack responded with two goals, but not without Baillargeon recording her second of the game before the whistle blew for halftime. The Ravens went into the intermission with a 10-4 lead.

It was Szawlowski sister number three who would strike first in the second half, when junior attacker Ashleigh Szawlowski netted her first of six goals. However, she would be the only AIC player to score for the remainder of the game. Franklin Pierce dominated scoring for the rest of the day, as the Ravens outscored AIC 10-6 in the second half.

Franklin Pierce senior attacker Lauren Stille (North Quincy, Mass.) joined her sister with a pair of goals, which gave her a team-leading 17 through the team's first five games. Three midfielders also recorded two goals on the day, including senior Jill Benn (North Quincy, Mass.), sophomore Courtney Weber (Centerport, N.Y.) and sophomore Ashley Lamagdeleine (Westfield, Mass.).

Junior goalkeeper Jill Bolduc (Atkinson, N.H.) made 21 saves to grab win (4-1) in front of Franklin Pierce's goal. Senior Gina Gallo started between the pipes, but did not last long for AIC, as she allowed three goals on five shots over the first 5:49 before being removed in favor of freshman Nicole Sawula. Sawula made just three saves against 20 shots the rest of the way and was charged with the loss (1-1).

Despite the 10-goal victory, Franklin Pierce was outshot 44-38, with 31 of those AIC shots coming from the three Szawlowski sisters. The Ravens were successful on 17 of 26 (65.4 percent) clear attempts and converted on seven of their eight free-position shots. AIC went 12-for-21 (57.1 percent) on clear attempts and 4-for-10 on free-position shots.

Next up, the Ravens travel to Saint Michael's for Northeast-10 action beginning at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29 at Doc Jacobs Field in Colchester, Vt. Franklin Pierce opened its season with a 17-8 non-conference win over Saint Michael's in Laurinburg, N.C.
