Julia Stevens Receives NEWHA Defensive Player of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. (2/15/23) – On Tuesday afternoon, the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) unveiled its selection of weekly award recipients, naming sophomore defender Julia Stevens (Minneapolis, Minn.) the NEWHA Defensive Player of the Week, per the announcement from the league offices.

The honor rewards her performance this past weekend, where women's hockey earned a split on the road versus Post University. For Stevens, it is her first round of Weekly Honors in her collegiate career, having previously earned Rookie Honor Roll recognition last spring.

Over the past weekend, Stevens scored her first collegiate goal and added in a pair of assists through the 1-1 series with Post University, finishing with a +5 rating. This season, Stevens now ranks third on the team in defensive scoring with seven points on one goal and six assists. With two players tied for the team lead, Stevens currently ranks second on the roster her +5 rating this season.  

Women's Hockey prepares for a crucial weekend series against the NEWHA's leading squad Long Island University, opening this Friday (2/17) at 2:00 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
