WINCHENDON, Mass. (November 4, 2022) --There was nothing in it on Friday night at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena, as the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team and Saint Michael's played 65 minutes without a goal, on the way to a scoreless tie in New England Women's Hockey Alliance play. Junior Carissa Mudrak piled up 46 saves for the visiting Purple Knights, while freshman Jill Hertl (Highland Park, Ill.) made 26 stops, as both goaltenders posted their first collegiate shutout.

With the tie, Franklin Pierce moves to 2-5-1 (1-1-1 NEWHA), while Saint Michael's stands at 1-5-1 (1-3-1 NEWHA). The two teams will wrap up their weekend series on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

For the Ravens, it marked the second 0-0 tie in program history, joining a scoreless draw at home against Sacred Heart on Feb. 1, 2019.

Franklin Pierce poured on the shots throughout the contest, but could never quite solve Mudrak (1-2-1). The Ravens posted shots advantages of 12-6 in the first period, 14-8 in the second, 15-10 in the third and 5-2 in overtime, on the way to the 46-26 margin for the game. Freshman Avery Farrell (Otsego, Minn.) led Franklin Pierce with seven shots, including a partial breakaway in the extra session, as she made a bid for her second straight overtime winner. Sophomore Mikayla Kelley (Eagan, Minn.) added six shots, while freshman Memphis Mertens (Roseau, Minn.) contributed five.

Mudrak turned all 18 shots from the trio aside, as well as 28 shots from the rest of the Ravens. She had some help from a Saint Michael's defense which blocked 19 shots along the way, including a game-high five by senior captain Jenna Harrison.

Meanwhile, the Purple Knights got six shots from junior Mikaela Langbacka to lead the way on their side of the ledger. Hertl (1-1-1) was equal to the task throughout, as she stymied all 26 shots on her net.

Each team came up empty on a pair of power-play opportunities.
