WINCHENDON, Mass. (November 12, 2021) -- Despite outshooting Saint Michael's by a 48-11 margin on Friday night, the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team was able to find the back of the net only once at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Fortunately for the Ravens, the third-period tally from freshman Geno Hendrickson (Warroad, Minn.) was the only goal of the contest, as Franklin Pierce skated to a 1-0 victory in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance weekend opener.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 5-4-1 (2-1-0 NEWHA), while Saint Michael's remains winless at 0-6-0 (0-5-0 NEWHA). The two teams will meet again on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena to wrap up the weekend set.

The only goal of the proceedings came at 6:52 of the third period, on an individual effort from Hendrickson to record her first collegiate goal. She took possession in the neutral zone and then took a circuitous route to the bottom of the left circle, as she skated left to right across the neutral zone, entered the attacking zone on the right side, and carried all the way across into the left circle. Once there, she was hassled by the defense and wound up in a battle for possession below the faceoff dot. Ultimately, Hendrickson reclaimed the puck, flung it towards the net, and it slipped past Saint Michael's sophomore goaltender Leah White.

Franklin Pierce controlled play throughout the night, particularly in the second period, when the Ravens rang up a 26-3 advantage in shots. Still, the game was scoreless through two, thanks to the work of White (0-2-0), who finished the night a hard-luck loser after making 47 saves against 48 shots. The Ravens hit three posts along the way, as well, one in each period.

Senior Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.) stopped all 11 shots on her goal to pick up the win (2-3-0) and her second shutout of the season in the Franklin Pierce crease. It was the Ravens' fourth shutout in 10 games to open the season.
