RINDGE, N.H. (January 30, 2019) – For the fourth straight week, freshman goaltender Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team has picked up a weekly award from the New England Women’s Hockey Alliance. This time around, she was selected as Defensive Player of the Week, for the week ending on Jan. 27, as announced late Tuesday afternoon by the NEWHA.

Ostrander played every minute in net for the Ravens as the team swept a two-game weekend series at Saint Michael’s. She stopped all 35 shots on her goal to post back-to-back shutouts, as Franklin Pierce won both games by identical, 3-0 scores. Ostrander made 19 saves on Friday night, and followed up with 16 saves on Saturday afternoon. Saturday’s victory made her the first freshman goaltender in program history to post a 10-win season.

On the season, Ostrander has logged over 60% of the team’s time in net. Over 858:06 in the crease, she has made 327 saves against 348 shots, to put together a .940 save percentage and a 1.47 goals-against average. Ostrander has a 10-4-0 record with five shutouts.

It marked Ostrander’s third selection as NEWHA Defensive Player of the Week on the season. Combined with three selections as NEWHA Rookie of the Week, she has now collected weekly awards from the league office in six of the season’s 12 weeks.

The Ravens return to the ice on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2, when they return home to host Sacred Heart in a two-game NEWHA weekend series. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
