Ravens wrap up regular season Saturday at Southern Maine

BOSTON (February 20, 2015) – Sophomore forwards Alysha Raimo (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Marisa Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska) each scored in the first period and then again in the second on Friday afternoon, to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team in a 7-1 win over Massachusetts Boston in ECAC East play at The Beacons Ice Arena. Sophomore defenseman Kat Armstrong scored the lone goal in defeat for Massachusetts Boston.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 18-5-1 (12-4-0 ECAC East), while Massachusetts Boston falls to 9-11-4 (6-8-2 ECAC East). The Ravens will wrap up their regular season on Saturday afternoon at Southern Maine, and a win would allow Franklin Pierce to clinch the top seed in next week's ECAC Open Tournament. Opening faceoff on Saturday is set for 1 p.m. at USM Ice Arena in Gorham, Maine.

Already holding a 3-0 lead, Franklin Pierce kept the pedal to the floor in the middle stanza on Friday afternoon. The Ravens scored three more times in the second period to take a 6-1 lead into the second intermission. First, the puck wound up on the stick of freshman forward Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.) in the right-wing circle. She quickly snapped a shot which beat the goaltender, banged off the crossbar and fell into the net to push the lead to 4-0. Ketterman picked up an assist on Brolsma's eighth of the season at the 3:24 mark.

The Beacons briefly made it a three-goal game again at 6:45, when senior defenseman Kelsey MacIsaac got the puck to Armstrong at the top of the right-wing circle. The latter sent her shot through traffic from there and banked it off of the left post and in for her third goal of the year.

Nearly 10 minutes later, Ketterman put home her second of the afternoon at 16:00 to make it a four-goal game again. Brolsma worked the puck to junior forward Bryana Harron (Woburn, Mass.) in the left-wing corner, and Harron began to cut behind the net from there. Before she passed behind the cage, she slipped the puck out front, where Ketterman was doing battle in the slot. Ketterman was able to get her stick free for the one-time finish and her 14th goal of the season.

The Ravens capped the second-period scoring at 19:24, on Raimo's second goal of the day. Junior defenseman Sarah Sheils (Pittsburgh, Pa.) took the initial shot from the left point, which was saved by senior goaltender Kailyn Burke. The rebound came into the right-wing circle for Raimo, who put it back towards the net. The puck slipped between Burke's pads for Raimo's fifth goal of the season.

Franklin Pierce added another insurance marker in the third to create the 7-1 final. With her team shorthanded, junior forward Karsyn Baker (Detroit, Mich.) took a feed from fellow junior forward Colleen Doucette (Wakefield, Mass.) and made a power move into the left-wing circle. Baker took a low shot from there and put the puck between Burke's pads for her team-leading 15th goal of the season at the 10:36 mark.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Ravens jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Raimo helped set up the fourth of the season for freshman forward Hailee Craig (Canton, Mich.) at the 9:17 mark. Just 1:50 later, Raimo put home her first of the game and the eventual game-winning goal at 11:07. Another 14 seconds after that, at 11:21, Harron and junior defenseman Hayley Arnold (Barre, Vt.) picked up the assists on Ketterman's first goal of the afternoon. Ketterman's goal spelled the end of the day for senior goaltender Moe Bradley, who was lifted in favor of Burke for the remainder of the contest.

Sophomore goaltender Shannon O'Neil (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished with 22 saves against 23 shots to pick up the win (8-3-1) in net for Franklin Pierce. Bradley made only six saves against nine shots over the opening 11:21 and took the loss (3-6-3) between the pipes for Massachusetts Boston. Burke stopped 20 of 24 shots over the remaining 48:39.
