NASHUA, N.H. (October 2, 2018) The Franklin Pierce University women's golf team never left the top of the team leaderboard during the two-day, Granite State Invitational hosted by Northeast-10 Conference program Merrimack College this past Monday and Tuesday.

The Ravens braved the rain both days of the par-71, 5,958-yard tournament at the Nashua Country Club and subtracted nine strokes (306, +22) from their first-round score (315, +31) to conclude the two rounds at 621 (+53). Pierce staved off a late second-day charge from the host Warriors who finished only three behind the Crimson and Grey. It was the Ravens first team championship of the 2018 season.

"This week was a complete team effort with all five players contributing to our first win of the season," said head coach Tyler Bishop. "I am really proud of our ladies and coaching staff. Everyone has been working extremely hard, putting extra work in and it's great to see. We are looking forward to keeping this momentum going for the rest of the season."

Junior team captain Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) placed second turning in a 149 (+7) scorecard. Yesterday, she was tied for third with Krystal Knight of Merrimack who advanced to the top spot to claim medalist honors. Yamamoto dropped five from her card on Tuesday to shoot a 72 (+1).

Freshman Christine Songcuan (Lancaster, Calif.) and junior Taylor Hartley (Battle Ground, Wash.) fired consistent 78 (+7) both rounds, which totaled 156 (+14). Both Ravens never left the top-five golfers over the course of the two days tying for fifth place overall.

Junior Rosa Jones (Mastic, N.Y.) climbed the nine slots on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 13th at 162 (+20). She produced a 78 (+7) 18 hole score on Tuesday. Teammate Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) dropped a stroke Tuesday to complete her rounds at 163 (+21).

Junior Sydney Caron (Gorham, Maine) competed as an individual and totaled a 185 (+43) two-round score.
