Women’s Golf Captures Fourth Team Title, Morrison Medals Again

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (April 22, 2017) – It's been quite the season for the Franklin Pierce University women's golf team as they have captured their fourth team title this weekend during the Saint Rose Spring Classic hosted by Northeast-10 Conference school the College of Saint Rose at the Pinehaven Country Club in Guilderland, N.Y.

The Ravens jumped one spot in the standings during the final rounds of golf on Saturday as they dropped seven strokes off their day one score cards to finish the par 72, 5,730 yard 18 hole course at 643 (+67). Merrimack College who finished Friday in first, fell to second place as they added three strokes to their tally. Le Moyne College remained in third with a 673 (+97).

The women's squad will patiently wait to see if they're awarded an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament when selections are announced next Friday, April 28th.

Junior team captain Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.) won her sixth medal this season by golfing a 147 (+3) over the two days which was seven strokes better than second place finisher Catherine French of Assumption College.

Three other members of the Ravens finished within the tournament's top-10 as Zoe Yamamoto (Honolulu, Hawaii) placed sixth at 159 (+15), Sarah Daley (Beverly, Mass.) improved her spot in the standings by five sports to finish in ninth at 169 (+25) and Taylor Schmidt trailed her teammate by three strokes en route to a 10th place finish. Schmidt's 10th place finish matched her best showing campaign.

Rosa Jones (Mastic, N.Y.) tied for 13th place at 175 (+31) and sophomore Shannon Slater (Stafford Springs, Conn.) who competed as an individual ended the tournament in 33rd place at 198 (+54).

Day One - Friday

Morrison concluded day one atop the leaderboard with a 73 (+1) score. Two other teammates rank within the top-10 as Yamamoto was tied for fifth place at 80 (+8) and Schmidt ended day one tied for ninth with an 84 (+12) score. Daley tied for 14th with an 88 (+16) scorecard while Jones finished her first 18 in 20th at 91 (+19).

Slater also made the trip to Saint Rose as an individual golfer and ended Friday in a tie for 32nd at 97 (+25).

Day Two – Saturday

Daley and Jones were key to the Ravens ascension into first place as the teams most improved golfers. Daley leaped into the top-10 by knocking seven strokes off her first day score. Jones also improved by seven strokes as she dropped from a 91 (+19) to an 84 (+12) during the final 18.
