Women’s Golf Finishes Seventh at Cottrell Invitational

Ravens travel to Le Moyne next week

Schmidt WEST CHESTER, Pa. (April 13, 2015) – The Franklin Pierce University women's golf team concluded play at the Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational, hosted by West Chester, on Monday and finished seventh, out of 10 teams. The Ravens shot a 368 (+80) on Monday at the par-72, 5854-yard Penn Oaks Golf Club, to finish with a two-day total of 745 (+169).

The Ravens, who were nine shots better on Monday than they were on Sunday, finished 63 shots behind Kutztown, which turned in a 346-336--682 (+106) to win the Cottrell Invitational. The Golden Bears finished with a three-shot win over second-place Millersville, which carded a 347-338--685 (+109). Host West Chester, the first-round leader, was 14 shots worse on Monday and slipped all the way to a third-place finish with 337-351--688 (+112).

Freshman Taylor Schmidt (West Springfield, Mass.) was the only Raven to break 90 on the weekend, as she turned in a Monday 89 (+17) to put together a 95-89--184 (+40), Franklin Pierce's best 36-hole score. Schmidt finished tied for 24th in the 50-golfer field. Three other Ravens finished in a tie for 28th at +43 to round out Franklin Pierce's scoring quartet: freshman Camden Morrison (Millis, Mass.) shot a 92-95--187, while freshmen Anna Haynes (Hopedale, Mass.) and Ashley Chubbuck (Windsor, Maine) each turned in identical, 95-92--187 scores. Freshman Katy Lounsbery (Middletown, N.Y.) carded a 133-120--253 to round out the Ravens' participation at the Cottrell Invitational.

Individually, Millersville's Shannon Weber took home medalist honors with a Monday-best 79 (+7), to finish at 84-79--163 (+19) over 36 holes. She scored a four-shot victory over an 87-80--167 (+23) from Kutztown's Hope Giordano and an 84-83--167 (+23) from West Chester's Lacey Bensing.

Franklin Pierce is back in action next weekend, on April 18-19 at the Le Moyne Invitational.
