Bowling Takes Down Kutztown on Opening Day in Hawk Flight Invitational, Finishes Day 2-3

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (February 26, 2016) -- Franklin Pierce University bowling highlighted its Friday with a win over No. 15 nationally ranked Kutztown, taking down 1108 pins in the process. It was part of a 2-3 overall day for the Ravens in their first day at the Hawk Flight Invitational, hosted by Monmouth University at Carolier Lanes.

The Ravens finished with a total pinfall for the first day of 4784 in the Baker format, averaging 956.8 pins per match. The Ravens best match came against conference foe Kutztown, where they totaled 1108 pins over five games.

Franklin Pierce opened the day against No. 4 Sam Houston State University, falling after five games, with a final score of 1147-924. Their match high of 199 pins came in the fourth game.

The second match of the day was against Felician College, and Ravens kept it close through the five games, including a narrow, two-pin loss in the final game. Ultimately, Franklin Pierce was not able to defeat the Golden Flacons and took their second loss of the day, 901-872.

The third match of the day was against No. 16 Monmouth College, and the Ravens outshot the Hawks in two games after falling short by seven pins in the first game. In the end, Franklin Pierce fell to the host team, 1061-943.

The Ravens took a big win in their fourth match of the day, against No. 15 Kutztown. Franklin Pierce won three of the five games, including a dominant, 225-184 win along the way. The overall score in the match finished at 1108-1020, in favor of the Ravens.

The Ravens faced New Jersey City University in their fifth match of the day. The first game came down to one pin, and the Ravens ultimately swept through the Knights in their final match of the day, posting a 937-717 final score.

Six Ravens had noteworthy averages on Friday: sophomore Colleen Kelly (Quincy, Mass.) ended the day with a Baker average of 216. Sophomores Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.) and Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) both averaged 203, sophomores Brittany Hovan (Paramus, N.J.) and Jessica Marcure (Attleboro, Mass.) both finished with 178 averages on the day, and freshman Sarah Busse (Commack, N.Y.) posted a 181 average.

The Ravens continue with the Hawk Flight Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 27.
