Davies and Varin aid strong showing by Bowling in day two of FDU New Jersey Jamboree

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (November 1, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce bowling team embraced a good day on the lanes on Saturday at the FDU New Jersey Jamboree hosted by Fairleigh Dickinson University. The Ravens came out of the day at 3-3 after a low day on Friday.

The Ravens first faced off against Saint Peter's, and at first left off where they began the day before with a loss on the board, by a final of 909-837. Junior Rebekah Varin (West Warwick, R.I.) topped the scoresheet with a 188, while freshman Jessica Davies (Cape Coral, Fla.) and Jess Marcure (Attleboro, Mass.) followed right behind with a 176 and 175.

In match two, the Ravens would square off against Monmouth, and were just edged out by a final of 927-916. Davies would take this opportunity to take control of the day, by scoring a 195, topping all Ravens on the match. Freshman Curran Desjardins (Ashcutnet, Mass.) and Nicolette Vucak (Garfield, N.J.) would have their best games of the day by bowling a 191 and 180.

The Ravens would break the losing streak in match three, where they took on New Jersey City. The Ravens would take a commanding 779-520 win, as Davies would once again top the scoreboard bowling a 177. Varin and Desjardins would once again put on strong showings with a 167 and 164 respectfully.

The Ravens would once again be edged out in match four against LIU Brooklyn, by a final score of 886-815. Varin would take the top spot for the Ravens bowling a 180, while Davies followed suit with a second consecutive 177.

From there, Davies would take control, and aid the Ravens to two victories to end the day, first starting in match five against Caldwell, with a 914-719 win. Davies would be the first Raven to break the 200 barrier on the day, shooting a 212, while freshman Brittany Hovan (Paramus, N.J.) got her top score of the day tossing a 190.

Varin would join Davies back atop the scoreboard in the Ravens final match of the day against Delaware State, as both shot over 200 in the Ravens 959-828 win. Varin had her best performance of the year with a 232, while Davies topped her previous best score with a 215. Hovan would also come in strong with a good performance of 179.

The Ravens return to the alley tomorrow as the 18th seed for day three of the tournament, where they will face off against 17th seeded Monmouth in the start of a bracket tournament day.
