Women's Basketball Stumbles in Second Half Versus Bentley, 70-49

RINDGE, N.H. (2/18/23) - It was another tough showing defensively for the Franklin Pierce women's basketball team as they struggled to manage the Bentley University offense on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Falcons in their final home game of the regular season, 70-49 at The Fieldhouse.

With the loss, women's basketball drops to 8-18 (4-15 NE10) on the season, while the Falcons jump to 16-9 (13-6 NE10) with the win.

To start out, the Falcons came on strong against the Ravens as they only missed four times from the floor (66%)through the opening frame, moving their way into a 20-16 lead. Despite the defensive struggles, freshman Kenzie Sirowich (Seymour, Conn.) led the way for the Ravens in the first with nine points scored, going a perfect 3-of-3 from the field along with a 2-of-2 segment from the free throw line. Junior Ines Monserrat (Mallorca, Spain) also notched five points in the quarter, combining with Sirowich for 14-of-16 points scored by the team, who only trailed by four after one.

In the second quarter, Monserrat made sure the Ravens traded chances with the Falcons, scoring another seven points on 3-of-7 shooting. However, Bentley continuously found ways to the rim, and eventually began to pull away from Pierce as the offense began to drop off slightly. By the end of the first half, the Ravens had fallen behind the Falcons by a 36-29 margin.

Turnover troubles began to plague the Ravens as the second half continued to be their achilles heel. Through the third 10-minute frame, the Ravens would manage to shoot fifty-percent from the field, but only attempt eight total shots the entire way, mustering only nine points scored. Meanwhile, with the Ravens struggling to find chances, Bentley took full advantage of the opportunity and extended their lead to 55-38, outscoring the Ravens 19-9 on their own fifty-percent shooting in the third.

Things would only get worse for the Ravens in the fourth quarter as their offensive continued to dissipate with five points scored, all the while being outworked by the Falcons 15-5. Anna Badosa Soler (Girona, Spain) and Kenzie Sirowich were the only Ravens to score in the quarter, but would not be able to stop the defensive bleeding in the second half as Bentley cruised their way to the 70-49 victory.

Kenzie Sirowich and Ines Monserrat dropped 15 and 14 points respectively for the Ravens in the loss,

As the team finished 17-of-48 from the field, and 4-of-17 from the perimeter. Through the full 40-minutes of play, Bentley out-rebounded the Ravens by a 34-20 margin, scoring 16 points off of Raven turnovers.

The Ravens wrap up their season on the road Tuesday evening (2/21) at Pace University, for a 5:30 p.m. start time.
