Le Moyne Too Much For Women's Basketball in 72-44 Loss

DEWITT, N.Y. (2/4/23) – The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team took a loss to Le Moyne College for the second time this season, dropping a 72-44 loss to the Dolphins on Saturday afternoon at the Ted Grant Court.

With the in-conference loss, women's basketball falls to 7-15 (3-12 NE10) on the season, while Le Moyne improves to 17-5 (12-4 NE10) following the win.

The Dolphins sprinted right out of the gate offensively, doubling up on the Ravens 26-11 through the opening 10 minutes. Across the mid-way portion of the quarter, Le Moyne steamrolled their way ahead with a devastating 22-3 scoring run, with the only basket for the Ravens belonging to freshman Leana Heitmann (Pompey, N.Y.) from behind the arc. Entering the second quarter, Le Moyne had already gone 9-of-15 in field goals, with four of them coming from three-point range.

Pierce would begin to find a stride in the second quarter, but would not see their first made basket until three-minutes in off a driving layup by junior Ana Badosa Soler (Girona, Spain). Over the next four minutes, the Ravens pieced together their largest run of the half, outscoring the Dolphins 6-2 on split baskets by junior Ines Gimenez Monserrat (Mallorca, Spain), and a final three-pointer by Leana Heitmann from up-high. Despite the improved production in the second, the Ravens would remain 12-points down on the Dolphins heading into the break.

Out of the intermission, the Dolphins continued to rain down triples on the Raven defense, and never looking back from there. With 1:19 left to play in the third, Le Moyne had secured their largest lead at 22 points, providing little hope for a Raven comeback. To open the fourth quarter, the host Dolphins refused to let up, and expanded their lead to 28 points with a 7-0 run. Freshman Kenzie Sirowich (Seymour, Conn.) went on to score six of Pierce's eight points in the final frame, but would not match the 15 points for Le Moyne en route to the 72-44 loss.

Ines Gimenez Monserrat recorded a double-double in the effort for Pierce, leading the offense with 14 points scored with 10 rebounds. Both Ana Badosa Soler and Kenzie Sirowich also reached double-figures on the afternoon, each securing ten points each. As a team, the Ravens went 17-of-53 from the floor, struggling behind the arc with a 5-of-22 performance.

Women's hoops will make their return to The Fieldhouse this coming Tuesday, February 7th where they will clash with in-state rival Southern New Hampshire University at 5:30 p.m.
