Women's Basketball Closes Out Weekend With 65-48 Victory over Post

RINDGE, N.H. (12/11/22) - The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team earned a much needed victory at home on Sunday afternoon, taking down non-conference visitor Post University by a score of 65-48 to close out the weekend.

The Raven's improve to 5-6 overall with the out of conference triumph, while the Eagles step back to 7-5 on the season with the loss.

Franklin Pierce hit the first basket of the game on a three-point jump shot by Anna Badosa Soler (Girona, Spain), but the Eagles would respond and eventually knot things up at 7-7. The tie score would not move for nearly two minutes, until freshman Sara Macary (Naugatuck, Conn.) returned the Ravens to the lead with a jump shot inside the arc, sparking a 9-2 scoring run to close out the opening frame. Throughout the first quarter, Pierce shot 6-of-17 (35.3%) from the floor, and would enter the second quarter leading 16-9.

After shooting 3-of-12 in the first quarter, the Eagles turned things around late in the second period with 11 unanswered points. Despite having control through the middle portion of the quarter, the Ravens ran into offensive troubles in the final three minutes of the half, while also committing three total turnovers. Junior Ines Gimenez Monserrat (Mallorca, Spain) led the scoring for Pierce with five points, but Post would claim the edge in the quarter, 17-15. By the half, the Raven lead would be shortened to just 31-26.

The first four minutes of the second half featured very little offense from either side, but the action picked up nearing the halfway point of the quarter. The Ravens and Eagles would trade layups at the 5:23 and 4:35 marks respectively, prompting a 30 second timeout by the Ravens. Out of the pause, freshman Edisha Galan (Manchester, Conn.) converted on a three-point jumper from up top, putting the Ravens ahead 42-29. Within the final two minutes of the quarter, junior Collette Mulderig (Scranton, Pa.) registered four points to bring her third quarter totals to eight, sending Pierce into the fourth leading 50-40.

Post opened the final quarter with an early three, but the Ravens stuck to their guns with the next 10 points scored, including two from five different players on the floor. At 3:43 of the fourth, Ines Gimenez Monserrat drained a three-point jumper from the right corner, seemingly providing Pierce with the necessary cushion to wrap up the contest. After two more points earned off free throws by Sara Macary, Pierce did exactly that, winning 65-48.

Sara Macary chalked up a game-high 16 points shooting 6-of-11 in field goals, while Ines Gimenez Monserrat came up just short of the double-double, scoring 12 points with 9 total rebounds off the board. Collette Mulderig notched a career-best 12 points (5-of-10), leading a 22 point performance from the bench. As a team, the Ravens connected on 24-of-59 (40.7%) from the floor.
