Carter, Gimenez Monserrat Power Women’s Basketball Past Post, 76-58

WATERBURY, Conn. (November 17, 2021) -- Sophomore Emma Carter (Bristol, Vt.) went for 27 points and sophomore Ines Gimenez Monserrat (Mallorca, Spain) added 21 more on Wednesday night, as the Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team chalked up a 76-58, road win over Post, at Drubner Center. Junior Sha'Raya Haines scored 15 and senior Jaeonna Sutton added 14 in defeat for Post.

With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 3-0, while Post falls to 1-1.

The first half went back and forth, with Post holding a 21-14 advantage in the first quarter and Franklin Pierce answering with a 17-11 margin in the second quarter to trail by a point at halftime, 32-31. The Ravens then took control in the second half, beginning with an 11-6 run to open the third quarter which gave them the lead for good. Franklin Pierce ultimately ran up a 20-10 advantage in the third quarter and then used a 25-16 fourth quarter to finish things off.

Carter's game-high 27 came on 9-for-16 from the floor, as part of a 26-for-61 shooting day for the Ravens (42.6%). She added 8-for-9 from the free-throw line along the way as well. Gimenez Monserrat added her 21 on a 9-for-16 shooting line of her own, which included 3-for-5 from three-point range. The duo combined for 48 of Franklin Pierce's 76 points, and no other Raven would get into double digits.

Gimenez Monserrat finished as the game's leading rebounder and narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds, including four on the offensive end. Carter added seven rebounds of her own, as the pair combined for 16 of the team's 40 rebounds, while senior Lisa Sulejmani (Burlington, Vt.) and sophomore Gisela Vazquez Segura (Igualada, Spain) chipped in six boards apiece. Sulejmani added seven points, five steals and three assists to fill out her stat line, but did turn the ball over six times as well.

On the other side of the court, Post managed just 19-for-59 from the floor (32.2%) and turned the ball over 22 times as well, including a costly 14 in the second half. Haines led the way offensively with 15 points, though it took her 19 field-goal attempts to get there (6-for-19), which included 3-for-10 from long range. Sutton was an equally-mediocre 3-for-9 from the field, but did go 6-for-6 from the free-throw line on her way to 14 points.

Haines led the Eagles with seven rebounds, while sophomore Kiera Fernandes added six off the bench. Junior Makayla Thompson contributed off the Post bench as well, to the tune of nine points, three steals, two assists and two rebounds.

The Ravens are on the road again this weekend, when they travel to Dominican (N.Y.) for a pair of non-conference games. Franklin Pierce will square off with Caldwell at 6 p.m. on Friday and take on the host Chargers at noon on Saturday.
