Natalie Bastian Nets 26 Points in Women’s Basketball 80-59 Win Over Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. (February 7, 2015) – Junior Natalie Bastian (Branford, Conn.) netted a career high of 26 points to aide in the Franklin Pierce Women's Basketball victory over Assumption College Saturday afternoon.  Sophomore Jasmyne Fogle (Bridgeport, Conn.) also posted a career high 11 points with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

With the win, the Ravens improve to 11-7 (9-6 Northeast-10), while the Greyhounds fall to 12-8 (7-8  Northeast-10). The matchup was a rematch of the two teams from January 3 at the Fieldhouse where the Ravens fell 76-56.

Franklin Pierce kept Assumption scoreless until 16:13 in the first half, 7-2. With just over 10 minutes to play in the half, the Greyhounds cut into the advantage, bringing the game within three points, 13-10, however, a three-pointer by Bastian would increase the lead to six, 16-10. Assumption would try to answer back with a layup, but junior Kara Charette (Fairhaven, Mass.) increased the Raven lead with her three pointer at 8:20 bringing the score 19-12.

Assumption freshman Kelly Carey would be fouled on a three point attempt, making all her free throws, bringing the game within four. However, once again the Ravens would respond with a three pointer, this one by sophomore Dana Campbell (Merrick, N.Y.) at 6:57, 22-15.

Freshman Jaclyn Storey would bring the game within one point with her three pointer at 3:37, sophomore Alison Palma (Stamford, Conn.) responded with a layup, 24-21. Seconds later. Carey would hit another jumper bringing the game back within one point. At 2:46 Bastian sunk another three pointer to being the Raven take away, 27-23.

The Ravens led 33-25 at halftime. Bastian scored nine of her 26 points in the first, while as a team the Ravens were 66.7% from the three point line, hitting 6-9, while Assumption only shot 14.3% from the arc.

Coming out strong in the second half, the Ravens were up by 11 by 14:27 in the game, 44-33. The Greyhounds would continue to fight off the double-digit lead the next few minutes, but Bastian would secure the double-digit advantage at 11:45 with her jumper.

Graduate student Jessica Hurd (Kegworth, England) netted a three at 3:12 to give the Ravens a 21 point lead, 67-46. Junior Caitlin Ackerman's three at 2:20 would be the last time Assumption trailed by less than 20 points 71-53; Campbell would net both of her free throws to regain the 20 point advantage.

The Ravens took the 80-59 victory with an effort from the entire team.

Caitlin Ackerman posted 16 points, with 8 rebounds, and 1 assist, with Jaclyn Storey also netting 16 points with 6 rebounds, and 1 assist.

Natalie Bastian had a career high of 26 points with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block. Jessica Hurd had 12 points with 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks, Sophomore Jasmyne Fogle (Bridgeport, Conn.) posted 11 points, with 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals, and 1 block, and Alison Palma had 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal.

The Ravens return to the court this Tuesday, February 11 when they travel to Manchester, N.H. to take on the Southern New Hampshire University Penman. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
