BOXSCORE

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (January 25, 2011) -- The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team won its fifth-consecutive game Tuesday night with a 67-46 triumph at Adelphi in Garden City, N.Y. The Ravens improved to 15-5 overall and 11-3 in the Northeast-10, while the Panthers dipped to 7-11 and 4-10 in league play.

The story of the night was junior center Jewel White (Worcester, Mass.), who recorded her second-straight double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, and in the process, topped the 500-mark in career rebounds. She currently stands at 508 for her career.

White's impressive career accomplishment came just one day after she was named the NE-10 player of the week for the third time this season. The three top weekly awards are the most for any women's basketball player in the conference this season.

Freshman center Jessica Hurd (Kegworth, England) was Franklin Pierce's other double-figure scorer as she tossed in 10 points, while also pulling down six rebounds and blocking a shot.

Eight of the nine Ravens that played in the game scored at least four points apiece. Sophomore guard Tiffany Johnson (St. Albans, Vt.) followed with eight points, while junior guard Lekia Cowen (Hopedale, Mass.) and junior forward Marielle Giroud (Martigny, Switzerland) chipped in with seven points each.

Jessica Kitrys was Adelphi's leading scorer with 16 points, while Ashley Caiafa added 13 points to go over 1,000 points for her career.

It was all Franklin Pierce throughout the evening as the Ravens led from start to finish. They opened the game on a 12-4 run, highlighted by baskets from White, Johnson and Giroud. After a brief rally by Adelphi, Franklin Pierce responded with a 9-3 surge to grab a 21-7 advantage moments later.

Franklin Pierce's lead continued to hover in double-digits the rest of the first half. Freshman guard Brittany Martelle (Brookfield, Conn.) bombed in a three-pointer with just over a minute left in the stanza, which helped stake the Ravens to a 34-21 lead at halftime.

The Ravens continued to add to their lead throughout the opening stages of the second half and eventually went up by 21 at 48-27 with 14:30 left in the game following a jumper from freshman guard Kate McDonald (Fall River, Mass.). The Ravens led by as many as 24 points late to cruise on for the victory.

Franklin Pierce shot 42 percent (23-of-55) from the floor, while limiting Adelphi to just 33 percent shooting (17-of-51). The Ravens also got the job done on the glass as they owned a 44-32 advantage, including getting seven rebounds from sophomore guard Amanda Saab (Windham, N.H.) and five from Johnson. The Ravens also did a solid job of taking care of the basketball, while forcing Adelphi into 16 turnovers.

Franklin Pierce returns to action Saturday when the Ravens play host to Le Moyne at 1:30 p.m. in The Fieldhouse in Rindge.
